Overview 

Step back in time, as we visit 5,000 year old Neolithic and Megalithic stone circles, standing stones and burial grounds. Our two-day Kilmartin Glen and Highland Tour will takes you to breathtaking scenery, ancient stone structures, an iconic castle, the ‘Seafood Capital of Scotland’ and the Trossachs national park.

Itinerary


Day 1

Pickup from Edinburgh, Glasgow, or Stirling at 09:30am


Luss, Loch Lomond

The beautiful village of Luss, nestled on the banks of Loch Lomond, is a wonderful quaint conservation village, voted by some as 'the most beautiful village in Scotland'.


Rest and be thankful

A mountain viewpoint with incredible views of the valley below.


Inverary Castle

Home and residence to the Clan Chief of Clan Campbell, Inveraray Castle has been affectionately nicknamed as the ‘Emerald Castle’ due to the unique green hue of the sandstone used to build it.


Kilmartin Glen

We will then make our way to Kilmartin, where you will find the most concentrated area of prehistoric standing stones, cysts, burial grounds, rock art and stone circles in Scotland dating back over 5,000 years - all within a 6 mile radius!


Crinan Canal & Neolithic Rock Art

Our route will take us along a sceninc drive through sections of the Crinan Canal, nicknamed as the 'most beautiful shortcut in Scotland' and we will stop to admire some neolithic rock art.


Dunadd Fort

We will then take you to Dunadd, an Iron Age Fort which was the capital of the Ancient Kingdom of Dalriada. Those brave and fit enough to climb to the top will be rewarded with stunning views of the sea and glen below. There is a foot print carved into the stone, where the King of Dalriada was crowned by placing his foot into this imprint - so you can 'follow in their footsteps'!


Nether Largie and Temple Wood

Moving along, we will then give you the opportunity to walk among the standing stones at Nether Largie and the cairns at Temple Wood.


Kilmartin Parish Church

We will finish off our tour of Kilmartin Glen at the Kilmartin Parish Church with its remarkable collection of early grave slabs.


Oban

We will drop you off at your accommodation in Oban - a famous port on the west coast of Scotland, affectionalely known as ‘the seafood capital of Scotland’.


Day 2

Pickup from your accommodation at 9:00am


McCaig's Tower

Also known as 'Oban's Coliseum', McCaig's Tower is a prominent viewpoint of Oban and various islands off the west coast of Scotland. Learn about it's history as you take in the stunning views below.


Fairy Bridge

Hike through a forest path to the magical 'Fairy Bridge' in Appin, built in 1836 (sensible footwear advised).


Castle Stalker

You may recognize it as Castle of Aaargh - the last castle visited in the closing scenes of the famous Monty Python and the Holy Grail movie.


Glencoe visitor center

Experience first hand life in the Highlands, as you enter a reconstructed replica of the traditional turf and creel Highland dwellings in use at the time of the MacDonald massacre in the 17th century.


3 Sisters of Glencoe

Close by we will take you to this incredible viewpoint in the Glencoe valley - the most photographed place in Scotland.


The meeting of the three waters

Just along from the 3 Sisters, we can stop over to appreciate this beautiful waterfall, that has recently become an Instagram sensation.


Rannoch Moor

Various optional photo stops along Rannoch Moor, the largest bog expanse in the UK, and a popular filming location for many TV series and blockbusters, including Harry Potter.


Doune Castle

Featured as ‘Castle Leoch’ in the hit TV series Outlander and Blood of My Blood, Doune Castle is one of the most cinematographic castles in Scotland. It was also Winterfell in the Game of Thrones pilot, and used for most of the scenes shot in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Coconuts optional - but you can buy some at the castle shop!


Drop Off

We will finally drop you off back at your accommodation in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Stirling.

Important Notes

  • British cars are smaller than our American counterparts, please be aware of this when booking for 4 adults.

  • Our website takes a deposit of £240, with the balance payable to the guide on the first day of the tour (cash/card).

Cancellation Policy

  • No cancellation fee is applicable, if made at least 14 days in advance of the scheduled departure.

  • If a Customer cancels between 13 and 3 days of the scheduled departure, a 50 per cent cancellation fee applies to the deposit.

  • If a Customer cancels within 48 hours of the tour departure time, there is a 100 percent cancellation fee applicable to the deposit.
